ProVa Flex is a multi-purpose polypropylene tile membrane used as an underlay for ceramic tiles and natural stone. It acts as an uncoupling membrane on all suitable substrates and as a water vapor pressure equalization membrane against dampness in the substrate. ProVa Flex protects against dampness in the substrate and is ready to tile immediately after installation using a modified thinset.
ProVa Flex is a separation layer between tile and substrate, which prevents stress transfer to the tile surface. If the substrate were to shift or move at all, ProVa Flex is there to bridge cracks that may develop in the substrate from this shifting or movement. In other words, a crack caused by movement in the substrate is now completely neutralized and will not be transferred to the floor covering because of the Prova Flex tile underlayment. Once again, Prova Flex tile underlayment can be installed using a modified thinset.
Workability of Prova Flex Tile Underlayment
ProVa Flex is tough yet pliable. Its ability to bend around corners without breaking or creasing makes tile installation quite easy. ProVa Flex underlayment can be cut with a knife or scissors, and its unique profile design and inter-woven polypropylene netting material works to increase surface area. This makes for a stronger bond between underlay and your tile. Prova Flex is 3.28' wide, and is 1/8" thick.
Suitable substrates for the use of Prova Flex underlayment are concrete, concrete screeds incorporating heating systems, synthetic flooring and surface coatings, Wood based plywood or OSB, gypsum based (anhydrite) screeds, and bituminous screeds. Please also keep in mind...Just because you can put Prova Flex over OSB, does not mean every modified thinset can be used over OSB. Yes, you must also make sure your thinset is okay for your specific application, not just the underlayment.
